国道25号（亀山・無料で利用できる名阪国道（国道25号）が、有料の東名阪自動車道・国道163号によって津市へと移動することができる。旧青山町からは名張市からつながる国道165号を以って、津市へと移動することができる。青山町区間は片側一車線でありながら、林業等に利用されるトラックが登坂の際徐行することも多いため、国道165号のボトルネックとなっている。 この際、青山峠を超える必要があり、秋から冬にかけては濃霧におおわれる日が多く、また路面が凍結することもあるため時間帯によっては注意が必要である。
