「約束」を絶対視する性分であり、宗麟への忠誠心は非常に強いものの、決して主君に甘いわけではない。弥七郎に対しては初対面での経緯から最悪の印象を抱く。 また、誾千代の結婚話には本気で動揺するなど、父親らしい一面もある。最終巻では宗茂と結婚したが、暑苦しさ全開の宗茂に冷淡な態度を取っている。父親ほどの威圧感はないが（それでも反論しかけた宗麟を眼光で射すくめ黙らせたことがある）、一度道雪ですら遠慮した宗麟の印象を率直に口にし、正気を失わせてしまったことがある。 それは娘の誾千代も例外ではなく、不始末の責任を取らせるため切腹を命じ、周囲を慌てさせたことが何度かある。
